Forsyth Plastic Surgery Welcomes Dr. Miguel Dorante

Dr. Miguel Dorante, MD, MBE, plastic and reconstructive surgeon at Forsyth Plastic Surgery

A board-eligible plastic and reconstructive surgeon brings rare peripheral nerve surgery expertise to Winston-Salem and Kernersville.

Board-Eligible · American Board of Plastic Surgery Sees Patients in English & Spanish Joining September 2026

This September, Forsyth Plastic Surgery and the Vista Med Spa is pleased to welcome Dr. Miguel Dorante, MD, MBE, to our team. Specifically, Dr. Dorante is a board-eligible plastic and reconstructive surgeon with a subspecialty in peripheral nerve surgery, a field practiced by only a small number of surgeons nationwide. Because of this rare training, he will see patients at both our Winston-Salem and Kernersville locations. As a result, patients now have access to a rare combination of cosmetic, reconstructive, and nerve surgery expertise under one roof.

Meet Dr. Miguel Dorante

Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Dr. Dorante immigrated to the United States with his family at age three. After growing up in South Florida, he headed north to Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, where he earned a degree in biomedical engineering with a minor in philosophy.

From there, he went on to Boston University School of Medicine for his medical degree, and along the way, he also completed a master's degree in bioethics at Harvard Medical School. During this time, his study of ethics ran alongside extensive involvement in face transplantation research at Brigham and Women's Hospital, work that ultimately shaped his lasting interest in restoring both form and function.

As a result, that interest kept him in Boston for a six-year integrated plastic and reconstructive surgery residency at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, where he came to call the city his second home. Afterward, he moved to St. Louis to complete a fellowship in peripheral nerve surgery at the Neuropax Clinic, one of only a handful of practices in the country devoted exclusively to the surgical treatment of nerve pain and nerve injury. There, he trained in nerve decompression, nerve reconstruction, and functional restoration, alongside the full range of hand, reconstructive, and aesthetic surgery.

Notably, he sees patients in both English and Spanish.

Ultimately, Dr. Dorante says he became a surgeon because he enjoys helping people and solving complex problems, and his practice is built around a simple goal: improving quality of life and getting patients back to what they enjoy.

Beyond the OR

Outside the operating room, Dr. Dorante is an avid soccer fan who played competitively through college and now cheers for AC Milan, along with following Formula 1. In his free time, he also enjoys cooking and hiking. Together with his wife, Amanda, a local reconstructive urologist, he is looking forward to getting to know the Winston-Salem and Triad community they now call home.
