Most men and women, as they age, develop excess skin of the upper eyelids and, sometimes, the lower eyelids. “Bags under the eyes” create a tired look and can make one look older than his or her true age. During a blepharoplasty, excess skin is removed from the eyelids along with excess fat. Sometimes the fat is moved to “hollow” areas in an attempt to fill in specific areas around the eyes.
Your surgeon can discuss with you whether you need upper, lower, or both eyelids treated. Most patients will have some swelling for several days, but after a week the eyes appear brighter and more youthful.
