Dr. Gwyn, the founder of Forsyth Plastic Surgery, has been in practice since 1970. Born in Elkin, North Carolina, he is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Princeton University and received his medical degree from the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University. His training in general surgery at Duke University Medical Center and the North Carolina Baptist Hospital was interrupted by two years in the United States Air Force. His training in Plastic Surgery was at the Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia. Dr. Gwyn was certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery.
Since beginning his practice as the first “town” Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Gwyn has served as the Chairman of the Section of Plastic Surgery at both Medical Park Hospital and Forsyth Medical Center, as well as the president of the staff at Medical Park Hospital. He was one of the founders of the North Carolina Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, and has served as both Treasurer and President. Dr. Gwyn was a diplomate of the American College of Surgeons, and an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, the Lipoplasty Society of North America, and the American Society of Laser Surgery and Medicine, as well as the American Medical Association and the North Carolina Medical Society.
Dr. Gwyn and his wife, Nancy, are the parents of three grown children and grandparents of five boys and one girl. He is active in his church. His hobbies include photography, music and travel.
Dr. Gwyn retired from the practice of plastic surgery in 2004.
