What is a Mommy Makeover?
It is not uncommon for pregnancy to take its toll on a woman’s body. And while the moms we see love their kids, they also love getting their bodies back after one or multiple pregnancies. A “Mommy Makeover” typically refers to the combination of abdominal rejuvenation (“tummy tuck” or liposuction) and a breast rejuvenation: usually an augmentation with implants or a breast lift (“mastopexy”).
This combination of surgeries is safe and effective, and often the moms we see can achieve the bodies they desire, even after multiple childbirths. We do advise waiting until you have had all the kids you want, and then seeing one of our surgeons about your own “Mommy Makeover.”
What to expect:
Depending on what combination of surgeries you need or want, the surgery and recovery can varies. Refer to the sections on tummy tuck, liposuction, breast lift, or breast augmentation depending on what areas you want treated.
You usually go home the same day or one night in hospital if monitoring is necessary. Swelling can last from 6 weeks to 3 months, but you will still notice an immediate difference. A compression garment can be worn for 4-6 weeks to help with swelling for the abdomen or sports bra for the breasts. A drain or 2 are usually placed in the abdomen and removed at an average of 1-2 weeks. You will likely want to sit in a more reclined position with your hips flexed for the first week. You cannot exercise for about 2 weeks and can expect to be out of work about 1-2 weeks depending on your profession the type of surgeries. No heavy lifting more than 10 lbs for about 2 weeks. Scars will eventually fade over the next few months to a fine white scar that should be hidden by underwear and swimsuits. Many of our patients find that they can fit into smaller more form-fitting clothing sizes. You should be back to normal by 4-6 weeks.
